So, it’s definitely been a hot minute since our last post – let’s just say, a lot has been going on behind the scenes… 😁 But I’m back today to share that another room in the basement I recently finished, and Dee should be posting another update soon, too!
But back to the room I just finished – the playroom! The kids realized it was done on their own, and wasted no time getting use out of the room. ☺️
This room really has come a long way. It started out as an extremely dirty room. There was literally melted wax stuck to one of the walls (can you see the pink streak in the upper left picture below?). It took forever just to clean and prep the room to paint, but what a difference! As you know, I also painted the floors (method and materials in this post), and after a hot water tank leak, had some repainting (and sealing) to do!!
I did things a little backwards and painted the trim and doors last. Can you tell in the photo above where I started painting trim? Hah! Also, the hubs replaced the outlets and covers (both before and during progress pictures are above). Shocking what a difference just paint can make!
I kept the furniture simple. The pull-out FRIHETEN couch (so this room doubles as another guest room!), FLYSTA bookshelf, and LACK shelf from IKEA. By the way, we’ve had this couch for 5 years now and it’s still going strong – very comfortable and durable (even survived an incident with food dye!).
I covered the tv stand makeover in this post about chalk paint. The baskets and flamingo on the tv stand are from Target, and fake succulents are IKEA (anyone surprised? Haha). I upgraded the closet knob to match the upgrade in the guest room (also
upgraded added a door knob)!
Notice the original Star Wars trilogy on display on the shelf amongst the toys? This was damaged in our first house (original sump pump failed, so it endured water damage), and when filling out our insurance paperwork, I noticed my husband put “priceless” as the value. LOL!!!!! The description was something like “Special Collectors Edition of original Star Wars Trilogy with Darth Vader case”. 😂 (He was dead serious with that write-up). So yea – I felt it appropriate to proudly display it in our playroom (and now I smile when I see it). ☺️
I got the scratch-off map from Etsy (frame from Amazon); and the Star Wars patent prints from Etsy, too (frames from Target). We need to do some more traveling ASAP – and now Russia and Antarctica have suddenly moved up on my travel list (haha!!). The plant is from Wayfair, and the basket is from Homegoods. My husband made the wooden car on top of the bookshelf for Pinewood Derby in Boy Scouts (so cute!).
Below shows how I hang picture frames. 😊
The rest of the decor was bought a long time ago, but the mirror is from HomeGoods; the candle holders are TJ Maxx; and the Millennium Falcon pillow is from Target. I also replaced the ceiling fan with this one over a year ago (the original small, dirty, formerly-white fan is pictured below a bit).
I’ll say it again – behold, the power of paint (walls are Palladian Blue by Ben Moore, btw)!!
It’s so cozy in here now; I actually want to pop some popcorn and watch a movie down here! I also found it to be the perfect spot for all of our noisiest toys (hidden in the woven toy bins)… 😁
One more set of before and after pics, because I still cannot believe the transformation of this room – especially the floor!!
Next up – I can’t wait to show you all how our new windows turned out (we got them about 2 weeks ago)! And our staircase is finally done (just finished last weekend)!! Annnnnnnd… WE MOVED OUR LAUNDRY UPSTAIRS!!!! Our new “laundry closet” isn’t completely finished (but is definitely functional), so I’ll be sharing those details with you in the coming weeks, too!!
Anyone else have a spur of productivity this spring?? I think we’re trying to get it out of our systems now, so we can relax this summer… ☺️
